Do you need an author website? I would say absolutely! There will be so many marketing opportunities with having your own author website, that you just cannot get on social media alone. Your social media accounts and websites should work together, so you need to strategize ways to get the most out of them. Just remember that relying on one social media platform is very dangerous ground. It is kind of like you building your house on somebody else's land. Maybe some people are okay with that... but what happens when they shut down altogether, they update an algorithm that hugely impacts your visibility etc. all of these things happen often with social media platforms.
