Be sure to watch this video next: /watch/UxRF2AP_gup_F Dune (2021) Movie Review: The Salty Nerds debate on whether the Denis Villeneuve Dune film is a masterpiece of cinema, or a total hot mess of an adaptation. We've already gotten a Dune movie from David Lynch, which was an obvious influence on Villeneuve's Dune, but not many people (except Kadish, apparently) care for the Lynch version. So is Dune 2021 better? Or just different? In this Dune 2021 breakdown, the Nerds attempt a Dune ending explained (spoiler, there is no actual ending) and a Dune recap of its best and worst moments. Overall, the Nerds agree the film looks beautiful, but the table is split on whether the movie is actually "good." What is your Dune 2021 movie review? Did you like it? Hate it? If so, why? Let us know in the comments!

@baraka993 years ago Flawed Masterpiece. Perhaps Director's Cut will make it a complete Masterpiece.
Jude JuJu had the best taste and solid arguments defining this movie. Other guys were just projecting their expectations.

@ShogunOrta3 years ago About the space travel, pay attention to the blue planet. It's there very big...and then you see it within the mouth of the Guild Highliner after they fold space. Whole sequence us subtle, but you get how they travel through space by way of the "tunnel" that the Highliner creates for Them. ...

@QuantumCat763 years ago The movie is good, but it's not that good.
I'm with Kadish on this one. (And I also love the Lynch version, despite its flaws)
And I was pleasantly surprised with the visuals, the scale (it really showcases how big things are and how tiny humans are)
But I found it lacking - I mean....for a movie that takes twice as long to tell basically the same story as the Lynch' version, while giving the about the same information/worldbuilding, it struggles to justifify itr length, which can be mostly attributed to the long, extended, potentially pretentious slow motion shots that Villeneuve uses. And mind you, I don't mind slow movies.
So I walked out of the Cinema with mixed feelings. Yes. It's awesome, but it's also flawed.
And one gripe is the music. While I think the music good and adequate, I never found it to stand out -especially amongst other movie scores. It doesn't seem to have an identity. I does a few things right, it's weird, it "alien", but when I walked out the cinema, with mixed feelings, I wasn't humming the theme -something I did with for instance Jurassic Park. I don't remember any tune.

@tommcmahan3 years ago People who haven't read the book don't realize that when a person first reads the book...you don't fully realize what's going on. It takes awhile to begin understanding much of what's going on.
The movie actually did a better job at that than the first book did.

@mathieuprajnanpad41743 years ago ThAt’s the difference between a movie and a book: in a movie, it’s just better to show or to suggest, not to explain everything in detail (if the movie would give all the explainations that you are Asking for, everybody would get bored). Villeneuve made the choice to focus his film on the inner journey of Paul and Also on his relationship with his mom. ... 2

@dennyawright213 years ago I’d recommend the Dune audiobook if anyone can’t get into the book. It’s probably the best version of all media. Excellent voice acting - it has sound effects and multiple actors. I’ve loved all versions of Dune. Vader’s line sums it up best: “This is the best 2 and a half hour prologue of all time” If they wanted to make movies vs TV installments then Kadish’s argument would lead to a trilogy and I’m not sure there’s enough to draw in enough tickets for Part One. ...

@lordcarnorjax85993 years ago I really enjoyed the movie. I've never read the book, I've seen the Lynch version a couple of times but not for a long time. I picked up easily on the slow blade shields thing and a bunch of the other stuff. Certainly want a longer cut though. I watched and it didn't feel like 2.5 hours went by. I'm really happy this is getting part 2. If we can get longer cuts for both parts like The Lord of the Rings trilogy has I think that will satisfy a lot of people. ... 1

@lucagiovanetti98702 years ago I watched it 7 times and I 've just fallen in love with this movie. Terribly underrated and totally misunderstood. It's one of the best sci-fi movies ever made in the last few decades. It's visually stunning and it's really powerful. The fight scenes are actually really good and realistic. The shields are really cool and i wish i'd seen more of the battle sequences. They fight with swords because they live in a dystopian medieval world where most technology has been banned and forbidden. The world building is simply amazing. You guys must be really crazy!!!! ...

@tommcmahan3 years ago If they added all the stuff you guys wanted them to add then we're back up to a 3-4 hour movie and everyone is complaining about it being too long LOL I thought they walked the line pretty fine. Also, in the book, there is no space travel at all. One chapter ends on Caladan, the next chapter starts on Arrakis. ...
