The Unicorn Tapestries are some of the most iconic, heartbreakingly poignant and exquisitely executed artefacts from the Western Medieval Era.
It is an honor to work with these incomparable images - now part of the Public Domain.
Print these timeless designs onto fabric using Cricut Design Space to control your printer.
Laser or InkJet Printers may be used. If using InkJet, be aware that the colors may smear or run if they come into contact with wet media.
Watch this excellent tutorial by Lisa Capen Quilts for an in depth demonstration of how to prepare your fabrics for printing:
/watch/o5rQklXTzfDTQ
Note: printing fabric may void your printer warranty - do so at your own risk.
For Laser Printing I used a Brother HL3140CW Digital Color Printer and an HP LaserJet CP1525nw Color Printer.
Best results using tightly woven white Cotton Polyester sheeting material, ironed onto an 8.5 x 11" rectangle of Freezer Paper.
InkJet Printing:
I used an Epson XP-410 Inkjet Printer, loaded with Durabright Ink Cartridges.
Best results printing directly onto Cotton / Polyester Sheeting, ironed onto an 8.5 x 11" rectangle of Freezer Paper.
Cricut Design Space Print Then Cut Size Limitations: 9.25 x 6.25"
Cricut Maker Material Setting: "Medium Fabrics (like Cotton)"
Test to verify that the fabric/backing has cut all the way through PRIOR to unloading the mat. If it hasn't cut through, simply press the "Go" button again on the Maker.

@tnishome32004 years agoOnce again: WOW! And while you credit Lisa for the technique of printing images on fabric, I would not have known about this technique if it weren't for you. So thank you, thank you, thank you, for providing the link to her video. I tried it this morning and it worked like a charm! Now to start thinking up projects!!!! Heather - YOU ARE AMAZING! ...

@tanyarichmond83134 years agoAs usual, these are so wonderful! I cannot wait to make them. I'm not even working on a Medieval era project...but, I am working on a New Orleans Garden District Victorian kitbashed from a Greenleaf Garfield...and made so much more interesting by incorporating techniques I have learned from you and from Ara....it turns out, a very nice witch is probably going to live in that house in New Orleans...and she is going to fly Medieval pennants from the porch posts....who knew? Thanks again...and so nice to hear your voice...I hope it means you are feeling better! ...1

@dmmomma4 years agoI've watched this twice now and really love what you've accomplished. They look like actual tapestries. My builds are for tabletop gaming terrain (think D&d scale - 1/58th??? - IDK) but I can def use your ideas to adorn my temple/church/sanctuary. love love. I also appreciate how much you and Ara borrow ideas from each other. Great artists sharing! Stay safe and healthy! ...1

@KML-rw1iq4 years agoMy heart lifts every time I see a notification from Thicketworks! These are gorgeous! I used to love to wander thought the Met Cloisters museum when I was a little girl. I share your lifelong love of these Tapestries and have worked on some in needlepoint, so to see them so perfectly wrought in miniature is a real joy. Your abandoned boudoir wouldn't stay abandoned for long if only I was 6" tall. Thanks for sharing the process with us. Truly beautiful work! ...

@melaniegustin87613 years agoHeather, thank you for this detailed list of materials. I discovered it after watching your video umpteen times, jotting down your tips madly, and then hunting at length on Amazon - when everything was right here! I should've known better. I do appreciate your thoroughness! Just had to mention something after seeing the unicorn tapestries here. The originals used to be on the walls of the palace within Stirling Castle in Scotland, owned by King James V over 500 years ago. They now are in the Met in NYC! Magnificent reproductions have now been completed at the castle, entirely as they would have been centuries ago. I was there to watch these people at their craft in 2014, and to hear a lecture about the project. Enthralling! You must add this trip to your bucket list! Here's a peek: Melanie Gustin ...

@phillipstroll73853 years agoGreat except for one thing. Tapestries abs books of hours were preserves above all others. They would have never allowed their tapestries to agree, fade, etc. That code stain and ink on the edges is just a no no. Their stuff was better than ours. Even they owned was bespoke. They took care of their shit. ...
