A caller told 911 operators around that the house exploded around 7 p.m. Monday night. When firefighters arrived, they found a duplex covered in flames, and multiple people told KMBC 9 News' Jackson Kurtz and Alan Shope they heard "many booms." "Like a bomb, or something, that’s what it sounded like honestly," said Alayna Johnson, a neighbor. "I’m just hoping everybody’s OK. I just heard a boom. I mean a boom. My whole house shook." Shope reported two children were taken out of the home on a gurney and wheeled into an ambulance. Both boys were conscious and did not appear to be seriously injured, he reported. Police told KMBC 9 News that the possible explosion is being treated as a crime scene. Fire officials have not said what caused the explosion, but neighbors said fireworks caused a car to blow up.
