Masking Fluid Painting Ideas | painting water with watercolour

In this video I show you some masking fluid painting ideas, using my Goya masking fluid pen. I'm painting water scenes with my Paul Rubens watercolour paints for this video. The first painting is created by using my masking fluid pen and adding streaks of masking fluid across the paper, to show where the highlights of water will be. I use the blue paints in my Paul Rubens watercolour set, varying my tones from lights to dark. I add in variations of tone across the paper, to show where the dark shadows of the water will be. Once I'm happy with my painting, I allow it to dry fully, before peeling the masking fluid off to reveal the highlights. For the second painting I use the masking fluid to show bubbles rising in water. I add the bubbles in free hand and in an organic nature. Once the masking fluid is fully dry I add a wash of paint across the paper. I use a gradient wash to build up the dark tones of the water, to give the impression of depth in the water. I lift out some of the painting with a damp paper towel, to show light beams streaming into the water. I'm really happy with both of these abstract water paintings, the maasking fluid works so well for these pieces.
